Captain Calm tastes like a blissful bubblegum flavoured drink that will make your kids fall in love with this purple superfood blend. We have combined premium dried fruit powders with natural plant based flavours to deliver a unique and fun calming drink. 

Yes! We use premium plant based flavours that are created using only natural processing methods such as heating, fermenting and pressing. There is nothing artificial in our Captain Calm. 

For parents' peace of mind, rest assured that we only use natural sweeteners across all of our products. Our Captain Calm contains thaumatin, which is sourced from the katemfe fruit, Thaumatococcus daniellii, found in the West African rainforests. Thaumatin is a very sweet protein that is extremely powerful so we only need to use tiny tiny amounts of it. Just to put into perspective, stevia is 200 times sweeter than sucrose, while thaumatin is about 2000 times sweeter than sucrose! Mother nature is indeed super powerful.

Captain Calm does not have stabilizers or instantizers to enhance the solubility of the herbs. Therefore our calming botanicals like chamomile, lemon balm and passionflower will naturally float to the top of your kids drink or settle on the bottom, but you can rest assured it’s because they are the real deal. If you would like to reduce this, we suggest frothing the milk as this tends to keep them held in suspension a bit longer.

 Captain Calm contains refractance window dried New Zealand purple carrot. This means that our purple carrot retains the highest amount of anthocyanins (the purple pigments) possible in a dried product and makes our drink a dazzling purple colour. However, as carrots are a natural product, of course, as with any other fruit or vegetable, there are seasonal variances which may result with more or less purple at times. The exact colour of Captain Calm will also vary slightly depending on the type of milk used. ie. greyish almond milk might make your kids drink darker than when made with white full cream milk. However, rest assured that our Captain Calm will taste beautiful no matter how purple the purple is.

 Yes! The recipe does not contain any gluten containing ingredients and we make sure that Captain Calm is manufactured and packed in a gluten free environment.

Yes & No. Captain Calm recipe (in powder form), does not contain any animal derived ingredients, so it is considered vegan. However keep in mind that if you follow our serving suggestion of adding this powdered drink to cow's milk, it will not be vegan and it will contain dairy. For a dairy free and vegan option add to plant-based milks. 

 NO, go find some grown up food! (Jokes). Anyone can have our delicious and nutritious product. However we specifically designed this product to meet young children's needs (between 1-3 years). But anyone older than 1 year of age can take this product, including adults. The only thing is that adults need a higher amount of nutrients when compared to young children.

 Yes! In saying this, we do advise on all our products to seek advice from your health care professional on taking our products if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. We only say so as we believe that every pregnancy is different, taking a toll differently on each individual body in vitamin, mineral and energy levels. We invite you to research the product to ensure that you are not sensitive to any particular ingredients. 

Here at Nutra Organics, it is of the utmost importance to us that all members of the family can enjoy the majority of our products and that where possible, we use the most “whole” form of the ingredient available. Therefore we do not utilise herbal extracts in Captain Calm, simply the whole herb. This means that our product is more wholesome, and suitable for all members of the family to consume.

Lemon Balm is a lemon-scented herb that comes from the same family as mint. This herb encourages restful moments. It is also a medicinal herb with memory supporting properties. Passionflower is another powerful and traditionally used herb to calm the mind.

 Captain Calm is a product designed to be consumed with milk (cow's milk or any other milk of choice). This is because cow's milk or soy milk are natural sources of tryptophan that can enhance the calming effect of this product. When consuming Captain Calm as per package instructions, there will be naturally occurring tryptophan present in milk (either full cream cow's milk or soy milk).

 Magnesium helps the body relax. This nutrient reduces the tension accumulated in your body and mind, promoting a calming and soothing environment. Have you noticed that magnesium is widely used outside and inside of the body for relaxation purposes? For example, most bath soaks contain magnesium to promote a complete experience of pure relaxation; sports ointments or sprays for muscle relaxation contain magnesium. Plus most sleeping and stress-relief supplements on the market also contain magnesium as the main active ingredient. Our Captain Calm surely does contain magnesium, to be precise 74% of your child's recommended dietary intake per serve. 

 The human body contains several biological pathways responsible to perform a complexity of tasks and each of them require a variety of compounds to work properly. Example, the Sleep-Wake cycle requires different hormones, enzymes and cofactors to be functional. Several studies have indicated the positive impacts of vitamin D and B vitamins (specifically B1, B6 and Folate) on body relaxation and calming pathways. Captain Calm contains the cofactors necessary to promote a calming and soothing time for your little ones. 

 This is a VERY good question. Let's break it down. Sugars are essential for brain function, as our brain relies on sugar as its main and preferred source of energy. So we need sugar to be able to function properly. Dietary carbohydrates (example sugars) play an important role to facilitate the transportation of tryptophan to the place where it is needed. Therefore sugars are indeed necessary to promote a relaxing and calming time.

 Absolutely not. Captain Calm is in no way comparable to a strong pharmaceutical that may cause your kids to feel drowsy the next day. Captain Calm is only a supportive food product, containing key active ingredients that promote a sense of relaxation during the afternoon or prior to bed, but it is not strong enough to cause excessive drowsiness.

We use refractance window drying to gently dry our premium fruits and vegetables. We use this method because it provides the highest level of preservation of volatile vitamins and nutrients in food powders compared with any other drying method. This means that antioxidants, water soluble vitamins can be retained to provide their health benefits. The final dried fruit or vegetable retains its colour, nutrients and taste.

What has changed in Captain Calm?

Captain Calm has had an update and you may notice some changes to the Ingredient list and NIP. It’s still the same flavour that your kids know and love!

Due to some clumping issues, we have slightly reduced some of the hygroscopic ingredients (rice hulls, strawberry, blueberry & purple carrot), plus added bamboo extract and rice milk powder to prevent clumping/hardening. As we have reduced the amount of purple carrot, we have also added blue spirulina and beetroot to retain the same purple colour.

The product serve size is now 5 grams instead of 4 grams to ensure kids get the same nutritional benefits.
